One time in 7th grade I was in the Glen Rock public library and I called Elvis Duran to request Pon de Replay by Rihanna. I got as far as the people who answer the phones. Seven years later, I’m the person who answers the phones.

I am in my fifth week with Elvis and the Morning Show and I still feel like at any minute “the kick” is going to set in waking me up from this dream. How did I even get here?!?!? I remember talking to my friend Kim about applying. I just kept saying, “There’s no way I’m going to get it, but what do I have to lose?”  Then one day I got a phone call. Then I had an interview. Then Brody obviously saw that twinkle in my eye, that spring in my step, my wit and my charm and decided it would be a good idea to let me inside the biggest and best radio talk show around. (It also could have been the six times I sent in my application, I don’t know).

So here I am, one month in at my very first internship. It doesn’t even seem like that much time has gone by and I’m even starting to get used to waking up at 3:30 in the morning. It’s tough, but definitely worth it. So, since I have yet to be an intern blogger, I will try to go over some highlights of my experiences over the last 30 days.

Some people may remember my warm welcome from Web Girl Kathleen .Our little “tiff” about having the same shirt landed me on air the first day I was here. In the same way that mayonnaise is as delicious as it is disgusting, my first radio experience was equal parts exhilarating and terrifying. And if anybody was wondering, Kathleen and I haven’t looked each other in the eye since then. (Just kidding. Kathleen is awesome!)

Psy came in for an interview once. I knew he was going to be there but he snuck in while I was in a studio doing some interny stuff. When I came out to ask fellow intern Danielle a question, I realized the Gangnam style singer had snuck right in. I have this disease where I forget how to properly function when I’m in the presence of famous people. Literally, I could legitimately dislike somebody but if they’ve been on the cover of people magazine or been photographed at their local grocery store with the caption “stars – they’re just like us”, my vocal chords kind of just shrivel up and hide somewhere.  Doctors everywhere are still searching for a cure. So I didn’t technically meet Psy, but we breathed the same air and then I got his coffee. So, basically, I’m now separated from Justin Bieber by a skinny three degrees.

One time, I found the first caller of the day, which is actually harder than it seems. This guy had just come from a bar and was raving about chocolate covered bacon. He ended up being pretty hilarious. I felt pretty good about myself when Carla Marie told me it was a good caller. It’s the little things in life, ya know?

And lastly, I will talk about last Friday.  Last Friday was probably the most fun I’ve had while being with The Morning Show. No, scratch that. It is definitely the most fun I’ve had. I got to help film the Gangnam Style parody video. It was hilarious. I was dying watching them all dance and trying not to mess up! Depsite some blooper worthy moments, it really did come together and they rocked it.

AND THEN I got to meet Kevin Jonas that same day, which I’m sure was just as memorable for him as it was for me.  We were getting ready to go shoot the video when Brody, Danielle, Bethany, and Elizabeth started to walk down stairs. I asked if we were all going and Brody said “You are if you want to meet Kevin Jonas.” Please, it is not like I was about to say no to that. So I tagged along to meet a member of the band my tween self worshipped.

If present day Emily could go back in time to freshman in high school Emily and tell her that this would happen, little Emily would actually have a heart attack and die. My insides were SCREAMING and FANGIRLING like crazy. It was actually a physical struggle to act like a sane human being. I think I kept it pretty casual. (Probably not, though.)

I could probably write a novella length post of all the things I’ve learned and done since joining the gaggle of interns at the Morning Show. I will, however, leave off with what has so far been the most surreal thing: hearing the voices of the radio personalities I grew up listening to while simultaneously seeing them through a glass window.
