Welcome to another edition of Coupon Corner at ElvisDuran.com! So, as I'm sure you know by now, I was recently featured on an episode of TLC's Extreme Couponing, and every time it runs I get lots of e-mails asking me for tips on how to do it. It's not as time consuming as it looks…and believe me…if I can do it, anyone can! The method to my madness is fairly simple. The first thing that I think is really important is to be store loyal. Find a store you like that has a good customer loyalty program. Be sure to get a store loyalty card…most supermarkets have them and they are free. Your card is the first step to savings. Without it, you cannot get the sale prices. Check the sale circulars each week. The sales at my store start on Sunday. The sale circular comes out on Thursday, so I have a few days to think about it. Then on Sunday when the newspaper comes, I'll match up the sale items to the coupons in the Sunday paper. For the most part, the supermarket sales will sync up with a lot of the coupons from the Sunday paper. Does your store have double coupons? That is a big plus. Some stores will double up to 50 cents, some (like mine) up to 99 cents, and some simply have no limit. When you see someone on TV with a massive haul of groceries (who needs 100 bottles of mustard???) chances are they are shopping at a store that has no limits, or they are extremely relaxed. Stores with loose limits are few and far between. In the more realistic world, you can only use a few like coupons in one shopping order. So there really is no need to go dumpster diving for hundreds of coupon inserts! Go to your supermarkets web site or courtesy desk to obtain their coupon policy. There are also lots of web sites you can visit to print coupons. Check out sites like Coupons.com, SmartSource.com or RedPlum.com to print coupons for items you use. Check your supermarket's web site before you shop. Many of them now have printable or even e-coupons that you can load right to your store loyalty card. Don't ignore the checkout coupons that you get when the cashier hands you your receipt...they know your shopping habits and coupons for items you use usually print out. Stock up on items you use when they are on sale and you have coupons for them. Don't get arrested for stealing Sunday newspapers! Check with family & friends…chances are, they throw their coupons out. Use theirs too! That's how I do it. I spend about 2 hours a week clipping, printing and putting my list together. It's rare that I ever do a shopping like you saw me do on TV…but it is possible! Have fun with it! Feel free to e-mail me with any questions you may have…ScottyB@ElvisDuran.com
